A life of comics

Gilbert Shelton was born in Houston, Texas in 1940 and began his cartooning career at the University of Texas at Austin in the early 1960s. He is the creator of Wonder Wart-Hog, the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers, Norbert the Notorious Narc, and many other wild and outlandish comic characters. Over five decades, his highly popular Furry Freak Brothers comics have sold millions of copies worldwide.  Shelton has been published all over North and South America, as well as most countries in Europe to satisfy the continuing demand from international fans. He now lives in Paris, France, where he produces Not Quite Dead, the saga of an over-the-hill rock band.

“Underground comics are more like art and less like comics.”
